Having been a resident in Marin County for twenty-five years... Having lived in Santa Rosa eight years and, having worked at KGO-Television in San Francisco, I have experienced a variety of transit systems.

Public Transportation is of vital importance to the economy, as insurance that enables a variety of shift workers to work fruitfully. Metropolitan Transportation Commission oversees the public transit in Northern California and… There should be funds allocated to finance and coordinate better transportation in Sonoma County.

Currently living in Santa Rosa, I try to use the “Santa Rosa City Bus”, "Petaluma City Transit” and the “Sonoma County Bus”.
With three separate bus systems…There are three
separate pots of gold in one county and…

Sonoma County is not meeting requirements of the Federal Law.
Current routes and schedules do not accommodate and changes should begin taken NOW.

What should be done? Save tax-payers' dollars & help residents. Have ONE system and eliminate routes that overlap.
There would be ONE schedule booklet & ONE county map, (w/ magnified portions of each city) showing ALL bus stops
(view the Golden Gate Transit map) .

  • The general public suffers from the independence of three different bus systems (of ONE county).
ONE County Bus Supervisor should oversee and coordinate the Managers of each city.

City bus supervisors can keep their job. Sonoma County Bus supervisor should coordinate all city busses.
Sonoma and Santa Rosa busses and Petaluma City Transit busses have insufficient shocks and measly plastic seats,
with meager or no cushion. What is the human spine worth? Keep the same City busses until they die(?)…
THEN invest in quality busses of Golden Gate Transit.

  • Santa Rosa Junior College is documented to be the best Junior College in the northern hemisphere.
Classes end at 10 PM and the last run of the City Bus is approximately at 7 PM and the last County Bus
is at approximately 9 PM. Many residents are shied access to education. Routes should run later.

  • The Americans with Disabilities Act was a commitment made by the federal law. Services provided in Sonoma are not
keeping up with the growth of the growing population
. Sonoma County is not meeting requirements of the Federal Law.

  • With approximately 40 sizeable Telecom corporations in Petaluma, accompanying Agilent, Hewlett Packard,
Optical Coating Laboratories, PacBell, Safeway (and a variety of other businesses abroad) there are workers 24 hours-a-day.
These businesses are enabling community prosperity and, routes should run later.

How to gain funding for the change?

1. The three separate systems should combine. And…

2. Years ago, Medtronics (one of the largest corporations in Sonoma County) gave money for their employee commute.
Effort should be put forth (by local government) to convince corporations to offer assistance for their employees commute to work.

3. Raise the sales tax by 1 cent.
